The sun terrace overlooks the lake and gardens, where from Easter onwards the hotel has rowing boats for hire. The Meare, inspired by J.M.Barries' Peter Pan story has islands to explore, a crocodile and Wendys' house to find. On cooler days it is the ideal spot for watching wildlife. A wonderful location to discover the Suffolk coast, excellent coastal walks, birds and wildlife,cycling,riding,clay shooting,tennis or just relax on the beach. Our own 18 hole golf course is one of the finest in East Anglia often compared to Woodhall Spa, a test for the experienced golfer.Golf at Thorpeness should be requested when making a reservation for accommodation. Subject to availability golf may also be played at Aldeburgh golf course. A valid handicap certificate is required at both courses, and terms and conditions apply. The village still has the traditional atmosphere and quirkiness of a by gone age. Built in the early 1900,s as a holiday destination for coloniels and their families home on leave from the British Colonies,in recent years the facilites have been sympathetically upgraded and renovated. Tennis is on seven all weather courts at the Country Club. Only 4 miles from Minsmere RSPB centre one of the hot spots for birdwatching on the heritage coast.
